Galway, Unhurried — The West of Ireland at Its Own Pace

Six days moving west with purpose: fjord water, cliff paths, harbour tables, and the long green edge of the Atlantic.

Sep 13–18, 2027 6 days / 5 nights Single rooms throughout

Not a sweep through Ireland.
A deeper line across the west.

Start among Galway's lanes, then follow the Atlantic through Connemara, Clare, and the Dingle Peninsula. The days pair one substantial adventure with enough room for a long lunch, a trad session, a harbour walk, or the kind of conversation that deserves another round.

Day 1 · Shannon to Galway

Arrive where the streets still have a rhythm.

Make your way from Shannon to Galway and settle into The Dean Hotel Galway, a boutique base near Eyre Square with rooms reserved for the group. That evening, everyone meets around the first shared table at Aniar, where Galway and the west coast shape the menu.

Day 2 · Connemara

Paddle into Ireland's only fjord.

After breakfast, a private coach cuts through the Twelve Bens and Maumturk Mountains to Killary Harbour. A guide leads the group onto the deep glacial water by sea kayak, beneath Mweelrea and the steep folds of Connemara. Lunch is unhurried in Leenane, the village at the head of the fjord, before the road back to Galway. The night ends wherever the trad music sounds best.

Day 3 · Clare to Dingle

Walk the Atlantic edge, then keep going south.

Check out after breakfast and follow the road south through the Burren's limestone landscape to Doolin. From there, a local guide leads an approximately eight-kilometer coastal hike along the open Cliffs of Moher trail, with sea stacks, the Aran Islands, and two hundred meters of air between the path and the Atlantic. Lunch follows at Gus O'Connor's Pub before the drive continues into Kerry, crossing the Shannon Estuary by ferry. The group reaches Milltown House, a waterfront retreat overlooking Dingle Bay, in the late afternoon. The evening stays unplanned — a harbour walk, a session in one of the pubs, or a long table wherever the group lands.

Day 4 · Slea Head

Take the long way around the peninsula.

A guide takes the group along Slea Head for a coastal hike past stone huts, old forts, and views toward the Blaskets, with the Atlantic open the whole way. The afternoon eases back into town for a private Dingle Distillery tasting. Dinner is at Out of the Blue, the harbour-side seafood room whose menu starts with what landed that day.

Day 5 · The Blaskets

Go out beyond the last headland.

A rigid-inflatable boat runs from Dingle toward Great Blasket Island, threading sea caves and high cliffs where seals—and, in season, dolphins, puffins, and whales—work the water. Back on land, the afternoon stays loose around the harbour and the few streets behind it. The last night belongs to the farewell dinner at Doyle's.

Day 6 · Dingle to Shannon

One last look west.

Breakfast closes the final morning at Milltown House. After check-out, a private coach takes the group through Tralee and Limerick to Shannon Airport, arriving around early afternoon for the journey home.
